Be Brave

The world presents us with countless roadblocks in our lifetime. Some are nothing more than anthills that we roll right over and others can seem too big for any person to overcome. When these giant obstacles get in your way you can either give up and choose to stay where you are or continue growing.

I don’t believe that anyone wants to give up but sometimes they don’t see another choice. To paraphrase Tony Hawk: it’s a lot easier to land a trick when you see someone else do it. That’s why we all need a little inspiration to put things in perspective and invigorate our personal or professional pursuits.

With that in mind I want to share the video below of skateboarder Tommy Carroll. Take a few minutes to watch Tommy explain how he overcomes his fear for the Be Brave, Be Safe campaign then read on to see how you can use some of his lessons in your own life.

Be Prepared
Tommy lessened the chances of injury by wearing the appropriate protective gear. It’s important in everything that you do to be prepared or as some say, set yourself up for success. Take the time to evaluate what you want to accomplish and how to attain your goals without creating more obstacles in the process.

Be Confident
If you think you can’t do it then you need to take along, hard look at why you want to accomplish your goal. Do you really want it? Think back at all of the other successes you have had in your life and identify the tools that helped you. Which skills will you use today to keep moving forward?

Be Aware
Just as Tommy uses his other senses to better position himself at the park or riding down the sidewalk, you will also need to be aware of your surroundings. What is in your life that will help you reach your goal and what will hinder your attempts? Build on the positive and keep moving forward.

Be Strong
Everyone falls down but not everyone gets up. I’ve heard that said a million times and it’s probably the truest statement out there. People who give up and those who try divide the world. It takes real strength to keep trying and when you tackle your goal intelligently by evaluating your failures, you can succeed.

Be an Inspiration
If you overcome your fear and reach your goal then why not tell people about your journey. Inspiration isn’t gloating and you can help others if you share your story. By starting a dialogue you will soon find more tools to motivate you to reach your next goal.
