Informed Purchases

Darcy Burner, a former Microsoft and Lotus programmer, has created a mock interface for her app and is now searching for engineers to assist on the back end.

There is too much information in the ether nowadays for anyone to remain ignorant. A simple touch of the screen and shoppers can compare prices, read product history, or uncover harmful ingredients or allergens. It will soon be even easier for left-wingers to boycott products that benefit their foes on the right thanks to Darcy Burner, a Democrat running for office in Washington State.

Angered by the political funding supplied by billionaire industrialists Charles and David Koch, among others, Burner is working with engineers to develop an app that will scan products’ bar codes and find out who benefits from their sale; in turn which party you are unwittingly funding. You can read more about the Koch brothers’ businesses and Burner’s app in this Forbes article.

Would you use this app when it becomes available or would you prefer to remain in the dark when you next buy Dixie cups?
